Win in 2015!

We are well into 2015 and some of us may have lost motivation or fell off the band wagon. It is a well known fact that 85 % of new year's resolutions fail, matter of fact 33 % of people break their resolutions by January 31st and a staggering 60 % by March 1st. If you fall into this category, fear not! All is not lost. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and implement these simple tactics to win.

  • Ditch the 'all or nothing mindset'

Even with good intentions, life happens. There will be times when you are not 100 % with your diet or you missed a workout here or there. This does not mean you've automatically failed. Stick to your plan 80-90 % of the time, this will eliminate feelings of guilt and short-comings. I tell my clients all the time “its ok to treat yourself, the key is creating balance and enjoying the things you like in moderation.” With this mindset you will certainly be successful and not find the need to binge eat. Remember; life is meant for living; so live it!

  • Ditch the 'I'm on a diet mindset'

Diets don't work, due to the simple fact that it has an end date. Rather, focus on making lifestyle changes by incorporating one healthy habit at a time. Set short-term and long-term goals and as those goals are achieved set new ones. Remember; this journey is a marathon not a sprint!

  • Identify your 'WHY'

As a fitness professional, I've heard countless goals such as; “I want to lose weight”. “I want to tone up”. “I just want a flat stomach”. While nothing is wrong with these goals, they are generally superficial and do not address the driving force thats causing you to take action. Sit and ask yourself 'WHY'. This will be the break through factor, and when the going gets tough it will keep you fired up! Perhaps you want to lose the weight and be healthier to be around to see your kids get married and your grandkids go off to college. Whatever your 'WHY' is, identify it, and gear yourself up for success!

  • Find support

For the fear of public failure, many try to keep their resolutions under wrap. Sharing your resolutions with family, friends, and co-workers can serve as a powerful motivator and also keep you accountable. If you're not quite ready to open up to the public, find a fitness professional to keep you accountable and motivated. Whatever you do, DON'T take this incredible journey alone.
